This program is the study of the human mind and brain, focusing on how the mind represents and manipulates knowledge and how mental representations and processes are realized in the brain. Programs in cognitive science at Johns Hopkins University reflect the interdisciplinary nature of the subject, requiring the student to approach the study of the mind/brain from several different investigative perspectives. Applicants should have completed a course of study in a secondary school that provides both a sound basic education and a solid preparation for the Johns Hopkins academic program. The preparatory course requirements are as follows: four years of English, four years of mathematics, four years of foreign language, four years of science with laboratory and four years of history. In addition to this, international students should have obtained a minimum TOEFL score of 600 (paper test), 250 (computer test), or 100 (internet-based test). Applicants taking the internet-based TOEFL (iBT) should have minimum sub-scores of 26 (reading), 26 (listening), 22 (writing), and 25 (speaking). A critical reading SAT score of 670 or higher waives for the TOEFL requirement for all students.
