Ringkasan program
This program is administered by the Division of Legal, Ethical and Historical Studies. An undergraduate degree in community studies and civic engagement provides students who are actively committed to working beyond the boundaries of the university an opportunity to discover trends and practices for initiating innovations in social, political and economic spheres. This interdisciplinary program encompasses courses in entrepreneurship, history, communication, philosophy, government, economics, accounting, and negotiations and conflict management. Through a variety of courses, internships and co‐curricular activities, students develop skills in resource and program development, strategic communication, organizational accountability, volunteer recruitment, human resource management and social entrepreneurship. They benefit from courses taught by professor/practitioners who are experts in philanthropy and nonprofit organizations. Many courses have a service‐learning component, and students complete a capstone experience based on a semester‐long field study (internship) with a community‐serving nonprofit organization. Upon graduation, students will have completed at least 300 hours of practical experience. Students are eligible to earn American Humanics certification, the only national undergraduate certification offered in nonprofit management and leadership. The certification offers students numerous opportunities to experience diverse co curricular activities such as the annual American Humanics Management Institute, professional development training and access to scholarships and internship stipends. Students planning to work in the nonprofit sector will benefit from American Humanics’ national network and will have a competitive edge in a growing profession. Community studies and civic engagement (CSCE) is an interdisciplinary major that draws on courses from history (HIST), government and public policy (GVPP), philosophy (PHIL), corporate communication (CMAT), sociology (SOCI), negotiations and conflict management (CNCM), accounting (ACCT), economics (ECON), entrepreneurship (ENTR) and management (MGMT).
