This program provides students who are inherently independent and creative with new avenues of study. It will be one which provides them with a thorough grounding in information sciences and technology but also the flexibility to design a curriculum of study to fit their interests and aspirations. Whether these students wish to blend information science and technology with the arts, the humanities, or with the sciences, this degree will provide them with the breadth of experience that they need to accomplish their goals. The degree will be suitable for students who wish to be entrepreneurs, who seek to go on to law or medical school, or who want to acquire an advanced degree in graduate studies.

Students must: be taking, or have taken, a program appropriate for entry to the major, including approximately 60 credits of course work; have completed the following entrance-to-major requirements with grades of C or better in each: IST 110(3); IST 210(4); and IST 220(3). These courses must be completed by the end of the semester during which the entrance-to-major procedure is carried out; have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 prior to and through the end of the semester during which the entrance-to-major procedure is carried out. International Students whose native language is not English must submit proof of English language proficiency: A minimum TOEFL score of 80 on the Internet-based TOEFL, 213 on the computer-based exam, or 550 on the paper exam (score reports must be official and cannot be more than two years old); A minimum IELTS score of 6.5 on the academic test; SAT score of 530 or higher on the critical reading or writing section; IGCSE score of A, B, or C on the English language exam, or; IB score of 5 or higher on the English language exam. Applicants who have been in a U.S. college or university and have completed two years of full-time academic course work and have a grade of C (2.0) or higher in a Standard English composition course will also meet the language proficiency requirement.

College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) is Penn State’s visionary response to the rapidly growing need in almost every field for leadership in information sciences and related technologies. Colleges are a community of scholars and practitioners - comprised of faculty, students, and partners - that values collaboration and interdisciplinary thinking. College collaborative efforts, in both education and research, are producing advances in technology and the college understanding of the way IT shapes the lives. College offer interdisciplinary programs at the graduate and undergraduate levels, with courses designed to provide students with a broad knowledge base and the skills needed to address complex problems through technology. College offer two unique bachelor’s degree programs: Information Sciences and Technology, and Security and Risk Analysis. Housing: At all of its residential campuses, University housing is held in high regard. Through the residence system, the University provides convenience, high value, security, and a wide scope of programs and services designed specifically to help students succeed. Most undergraduate students live in North, South, East, West, or Pollock Halls; Eastview Terrace; or Nittany Apartments. Undergraduate students with families may apply to live in White Course Apartments. Single graduate students and students with families are eligible to apply for housing at White Course Apartments. Postdoctoral students are not eligible for on-campus housing. Students who live in White Course Apartments may purchase an A-La Board meal plan.
