The following courses are required: 1. Successful completion of general studies requirements for B. A. Degree. 2. Successful completion of the following degree programs (36 hours total) - Core Courses: ECON 255: Economics (3 hours); GEOG 300: World Geography (3 hours); GOVT 291: American Government (3 hours); HIST 202: U. S. to 1865 (3 hours); HIST 203: U. S. since 1865 (3 hours); HGP 471: Senior Seminar (3 hours). Social Science (3 hours: select one): SOC 318: ‘Race’, Class and Gender (3 hours); or ANTH 201 Introduction to Anthropology (or other course with an ANTH prefix at the 200-level or above). Comparative Government (3 hours: select one): GOVT 307: Introduction to World Governments (3 hours); GOVT 308: Pacific Rim and the 21st Century World (3 hours). Social Studies Depth and Content (15 hours: select five): ECON 256: Economics (3 hours); PSYC 315: Multicultural Issues in a Pluralistic Society (3 hours); HIST 328: Chicano History (3 hours); HIST 357: Mexico (3 hours); HIST 316: American Revolution and the Federalist Era (3 hours); HIST 363: Civil War and Reconstruction (3 hours); HIST: 433 Modern Europe (3 hours); HIST 427: U. S. since 1945 (3 hours). Required Field Based Methods Course: (3 hours): HGP 316: Methods of Teaching Social Studies (3 hours).

First-time students may apply for admission any time after the completion of their junior year in high school. Strong candidates for admission into the baccalaureate program must have a minimum 80 index, according to the Colorado Commission of Higher Education admissions eligibility index. Applicants graduating from high school in 2008 and 2009, must also have completed the Colorado Higher Education Admissions Requirements (HEAR) during high school: Four units of English; Three units of mathematics (Algebra I and higher); Three units of natural/physical science (including two units lab-based science); Three units of social science (including one unit of U.S. or world history); Two units of academic electives. Applicants with an index below 80 and/or who have not completed the HEAR coursework will be considered for conditional admission into the baccalaureate program or for admission into the associate program. Applicants in this situation are strongly encouraged to submit a personal statement and/or letter(s) of recommendation. Note: Adams State College’s role and mission enables the college to admit any qualified student who graduates from a San Luis Valley high school. Applicants who successfully complete the GED with a minimum score of 450 may be considered for admission. A minimum score of 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based) or 79 (internet-based) on the TOEFL exam is considered acceptable. If a student attends an ESL program, successful completion of level 109 is considered acceptable.
