The University of Missouri was founded in 1839 in Columbia, Mo., as the first public university west of the Mississippi River and the first state university in Thomas Jefferson's Louisiana Purchase territory. MU provides all the benefits of two universities in one it is a major land-grant institution and Missouri's largest public research university. Mizzou has a diverse enrollment with 30,200 students from every county in Missouri, every state in the nation and 100 countries. University of Missouri is located in Columbia, Missouri (one of America’s best college towns), Mizzou is an exceptional place, a university where students will find more of what they want and need than they can even imagine. The ten facilities provided by the university are the Fields, the Courts and the Wall, Student Success Center, Buck’s Place, The New Life Sciences Center with more than 72,000 square feet of laboratory space, The Atrium at Cornell Hall, The School of Journalism operates from five buildings on the main campus. Students will find two high-tech design labs, a digital television editing lab, three major writing labs and two world-class newsrooms one is an NBC affiliate and the other an NPR affiliate, Museum of Anthropology has four major collections, a 20,000-square-foot temperature-controlled storage space for the collections and four dedicated laboratories, The Research Reactor, Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital and the Alpine Tower.

The university offers more housing choices, more comfort and more community. Students learn best when they feel comfortable and are fully immersed in an academic community. So the residence halls are located only minutes away from classes, the library and campus computer labs (as well as more casual places to study, such as Brady Commons). And then there are the places to eat dozens of them. The optional living-learning communities surround them with people who share their academic and career interests a great way for students to make friends, find study partners and target their career goals. University Student Apartments are available only for students who are married, have children, are single graduate students, or are students over the age of 21. All other students should prefer the Residence Hall.
