The modules are core curriculum requirements: ENGL 1303, 1304 Freshman Composition I, II 6, MATH 1310 College Algebra 3, Three hours in approved math, logic, statistics, computer science, or music theory courses 3, Approved courses in Natural Sciences 6, Approved courses in Social and Behavioral Sciences 3, Approved courses in Writing in the Discipline 3, Approved courses in Humanities 3, Approved courses in Visual/Performing Arts 3, American History: HIST 1377 and 1378 or equivalent 6, American Government: POLS 1336 and 1337 or equivalent 6. TeachHouston Requirements: At least 30 semester hours in mathematics which must include: 30, MATH 1431, 1432, 2331, 2433, 3311, 3331, 3333, 3334, or 3335, or 3364, 3379, 4389, 6 hours of a 4000 level senior sequence, a minimum of 3 semester hours of 4000 level math, EDUC 1101, 1102, 3350, 3351, 3352, 4350 14, EDUC 4314, 4315 6, BIOL/CHEM/PHYS 4340 3. Foreign Language - 6 hours: Courses at the 2000-level or above in the same language are required International students may not take English or their native language Mathematics - 6 hours: These must be selected from courses approved for NSM majors Natural Sciences - 7 hours: Two approved courses in the same discipline, chosen from biochemical and biophysical science, biology, chemistry, earth and atmospheric sciences, and physics. These courses must be from outside the student's major, and only include those courses approved for NSM majors. NSM Capstone - 6-21 hours: The NSM Capstone requirement may be satisfied by completing one of the following options: A double major, A double or previous four-year degree, A six hour senior research project, A senior honors thesis, 6 hours of NSM-designated paired capstone courses - GEOL 3355-3360; COSC 3351-4352, an approved minor, Completion of TeachHouston requirements, Computer Science (Business Option) majors may satisfy the capstone requirement by completing six approved advanced hours from MIS 3360 and one of MIS 4374, or 4379, or 4478 (Students who major in biology may not double major, double degree, or minor in biochemical and biophysical sciences).

Students must meet one of the following college readiness standards in order to be eligible to be considered for admission at a Texas four-year public institution. Students must successfully complete the recommended or advanced high school program or complete the portion of the program that was available to them; or students must have the scores of SAT - 1500 out of 2400 (verbal, math and writing)/ACT - 18 English, 21 reading, 22 mathematics and 24 science; or successfully complete a curriculum that is equivalent in content and rigor to the recommended or advanced high school program at a high school that is exempt from offering such programs. Students that do not meet one of first two requirements must prove they meet the third requirement by having their counselor fill out the high school curriculum certification form and submit to the University of Houston. Students must complete each of the high school academic core courses (four units of English; three units of mathematics, including at least algebra I, algebra II, and geometry; two units of laboratory science, including at least one unit/credit in biology, chemistry, or physics; three units of social studies; two units/credits in one foreign language) with an average of a 2.5 or a “C+” or higher for the group. Students should have secured a minimum score of 550 (paper-based) or 79 (internet-based) on the test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or overall band score of 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or completion of level six of the University of Houston’s Language and Culture Center.
