This program allows students to select an independent and interdisciplinary course of study that focuses on some aspect of the politics of conflict and cooperation. Students choosing this option must select a faculty adviser from the departmental faculty who will supervise the student's program and advise them on how to proceed. This option encourages students to identify some basic issue area or problem area that involves the politics of conflict and cooperation that will become the subject of analysis and research. Divisional courses associated with the politics of conflict and cooperation option are arranged under three topical headings: conflict and cooperation in America, international conflict and cooperation, and theories of conflict and cooperation.

Applicant must have completed high school or secondary school with a cumulative (overall) grade point average (G.P.A.) of at least 3.0 (when converted to the U.S. 4.0 grading scale). They are not required to submit SAT or ACT scores; however, a low GPA can be offset by an SAT score of 1000 or ACT score of 21. Applicant must demonstrate English language proficiency by submitting the following test results: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores for Paper-based test (PBT) 525, Computer-based test (CBT) 197, or Internet-based test (IBT) with minimum sub scores of 16 for reading and listening, and 14 for speaking and writing or IELTS scores of 6.5 overall and minimum 6.0 in each band.

The primary mission of the Division of Political Science is citizenship education: to develop citizens capable of responding effectively to diversity, ambiguity, and conflict within the context of a democratic society and an increasingly interconnected world. Faculty and coursework deepen student’s understanding of the American and global political systems, including such crucial topics as the nature of the policy process; the rules and procedures of local, state, national, and international political institutions; the crucial role of individuals, political parties, interest groups, and the media in the political process; the ways in which political culture shapes political demands and policies; the nature and character of alternative philosophical perspectives on public life and their relation to the western liberal tradition; and the impact of globalization on peoples, cultures, and environments.
