Uraian Tempat

This department is one of the biggest academic units in the state. The department is comprised of 35.5 tenure track faculty, 8.5 faculty lecturers, more than 1,300 majors, more than 100 graduate students, and 89 staff and research support positions. Its non-majors courses, which are now taken by nearly two thousand students each year, serve as key entry points for the allied health sciences. Collectively, the department's research activities generate $6-13 million per year, and the department is home to some of UNM's most prestigious academic programs and faculty. Our faculty are productive, publishing more than 100 papers per year, including a high fraction of the state's output in preeminent journals such as Science and Nature. It has strong programs in ecology and evolution that embrace diverse programs in ecosystems ecology, plant population biology, behavioral ecology, metabolic ecology and collections-based studies in the Museum of Southwestern Biology. Lying in intermediate positions are integrative programs in parasitology and comparative immunology that cut across traditional disciplines, and at the cell/molecular end of the spectrum are programs in genomics, fungal biology and Drosophila development that also build on evolutionary themes.

The university's Residence Life Office believes the residence halls are more than just a place to sleep and study. In addition to academics, the residence life staff plans activities and programs to foster social interaction and develop well-rounded students. This is done through the work of resident advisors, student head residents, desk, mailroom and security staff, and community association members. They also provide para-professional counseling and enforce policies. Residence life includes: hall community associations, resident advisors, social and educational activities, residence hall desks, student discipline, counseling, security, conflict mediation. Students are responsible for cleaning their rooms. Maid and custodian services are provided for public areas of the halls on a Monday through Friday basis, washers and dryers are provided in each residence hall. Mail is distributed through the central mail room facility located behind the 24 Hour Desk in the Student Residence Center Commons Building, vending machines are located in the residence halls for convenience of the residents, a limited number of refrigerator units available for rent each semester. Students wishing to store firearms or other weapons (hunting knives, archery, fencing, or martial arts equipment) may do so at the Campus Police Station. The Computer POD is located on the second floor in the Student Residence Center and is managed by student housing's ResNet staff. POD computers are for the exclusive use of residence hall students.
