Ringkasan program

This program is designed for students whose educational and career goals are focused on studying and working with children and families within educational programs, community services, and other professional settings. The major is designed to accommodate the special interests or strengths of students and allows for flexibility and individualization. Students design a program of study in consultation with their advisor that includes a core of required courses, a complement of specialty courses supportive of individual interests, and a 12-hour practicum that will complete their program of study. All students graduating with a child and family studies major will have in-depth knowledge about children and families, a broad integrative perspective, and means for application.

Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional

Applicants must have completed of the 14 required core academic subjects: 4 units of English; 3 units of mathematics (2 units of algebra plus 1 of advanced math, trigonometry, geometry, or calculus); 2 units of natural science (including at least 1 unit of biology, chemistry, or physics); 2 units of a single foreign language; 1 unit of American history; 1 unit of European history, world history, or world geography; 1 unit of visual or performing arts. All undergraduate applicants who are not U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate proficiency in one of the following ways: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam. A minimum score of 193 (computer-based), 523 (paper-based), or 70 on the iBT TOEFL (internet-based) or a minimum score of 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam or a minimum score of 21 on the English portion of the ACT or a score of 510 on the Critical Reading portion of the SAT or college credit (grade C or better) for English Composition 101 and 102 or AP credit (score of 4 or 5) on the Literature and Composition test or completion of the ELS Language Centers 112 intensive program or completion of the UT Knoxville English Language Institute’s (ELI) core intensive curriculum with recommendation from the ELI faculty.

The mission of the Department of Child and Family Studies (CFS) is to foster and disseminate scientific understanding of children, families and the early education process. This mission has two fundamental areas of emphasis. The first of these – development in context – recognizes that development occurs in multiple, interconnected settings, such as the family, neighborhood, school, community, culture, and the international environment. The second area of emphasis - children and families at risk – reflects a commitment to generating informed practices that will improve the lives of those in greatest need. CFS prepares students for careers in both public and private domains that focus on children, families, and early learning. Students acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and professional ethics through undergraduate and graduate coursework, internship opportunities, research projects, and outreach activities.

The University of Tennessee is a residential campus with 13 residence halls accommodating nearly 6,500 students. Living on campus allows students to be a part of a wide range of residence hall activities designed to contribute to a fantastic first-year experience—and greatly increases their probability of satisfaction with university life. The Department of University Housing provides apartment living for married students, single parents, single graduate students and non-traditional undergraduates 21 years and older. The University of Tennessee is a dry campus. In accordance with University regulations, serving, consuming, possession, being under influence or the display of an alcoholic beverage is not permitted. All residence hall rooms are wired for computers and there is no charge for service. The University offers three housing options for students. This allows students to select the type of facility in which he or she will live, within the University's capability to offer such living arrangements. Students are encouraged to give considerable thought and attention to their housing selection. The differentiated housing program offers three distinct types of living atmospheres.
