University was founded in 1881 as the Storrs Agricultural School and became the University of Connecticut in 1939. The University has ten schools and colleges at its main campus in Storrs, separate Schools of Law and Social Work in Hartford, five regional campuses throughout the state and Schools of Medicine and Dental Medicine at the UConn Health Center in Farmington. The University spans 4,108 acres at its main campus and five regional campuses, and an additional 205 acres at the UConn Health Center in Farmington. The University is undergoing an amazing transformation. UConn is renewing, rebuilding and enhancing its campuses through an unprecedented $2.8 billion, 20-year investment in the University’s infrastructure. State-of-the-art facilities grace every campus. The University of Connecticut is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). UConn is a research intensive university, a prestigious designation shared by only the nation's top higher education institutions. They have more than 70 focused research centers where faculty, graduate students and undergraduates explore everything from improving human health to enhancing public education and protecting the country’s natural resources.

University provides on campus housing at the following residence halls for graduate students at the following places: Graduate Residences; The Graduate Residences contain single rooms for graduate students and older undergraduates. Centrally located on campus, the Graduate Residences consist of three buildings in a coeducational complex that contains 440 carpeted, single rooms. These buildings are subdivided into 16 halls with no more than ten students sharing a bathroom on a floor. These residences provide year-round housing including breaks between semesters and holidays. Northwood Apartments; The Northwood Apartments complex is located on Northwood Road, just off of North Eagleville Road on the western perimeter of the University of Connecticut campus. Northwood Apartments provides housing for graduate students in two-bedroom apartments and also accommodates graduate students with families. Some undergraduate students may also be housed in two-bedroom apartments. Hilltop Apartments; The Hilltop Apartments are home to 964 undergraduate and graduate students. While primarily serving the undergraduate student population there are a number of apartments available for graduate students. The complex is comprised of thirteen, three story buildings and a Community Center. There are a variety of living options available ranging from four person, two person, and one person efficiency apartments. University also provides on campus housing for the undergraduate students at the following residence halls; Alumni Quadrangle, Buckley, Charter Oak Apartments, Alan Thacker Busby Suites (formerly Charter Oak Suites), East Campus, Hilltop Residence Halls, Hilltop Apartments, Harry Lucian Garrigus Suites (formerly Hilltop Suites), Husky Village, Mansfield Apartments, McMahon Hall, Northwest - Freshmen Only, North Campus, Shippee - Freshmen Only, South Campus, Towers Quadrangle, West Campus.
