The BA/BFA program at The New School is a five-year dual degree program that culminates in a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from Eugene Lang College and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree from either Parsons The New School for Design or The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. Of the 180 total credits required for the dual degree, 90 credits are earned in the liberal arts and 90 credits are earned in studio-based courses. To help with academic planning and meeting the requirements of each school, students in the BAFA program have a faculty advisor at Lang and either a departmental advisor at Parsons or an academic administrator at Jazz. Additionally, there are BAFA point people in each school who are well versed in the program and who can work with students having problems at either school, or with the BAFA program in general.

Applicants applying for admission to the BA/BFA program must have a minimum of 180 credits, including a minimum of 90 credits in liberal arts courses and 90 credits in non-liberal arts (studio and practice-based) courses, completion of at least one Lang course in each semester, for a minimum of 44 credits in Lang courses, completion of the requirements for a Lang major or interdisciplinary program, writing the Essay 1 and 2, Workshop, Advising seminar, and Reading NYC, two University Lecture (ULEC) courses (transfer students are exempt from this requirement) and completion of Parsons or Jazz program requirements. Applicants' whose English is not their first language, they will be required to take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). A minimum score of 88 on the Internet-based examination or 230 on the computer-based test is required.
