Ringkasan program
This program goal is to provide a curriculum that gives students a solid foundation in chemistry and also the coursework necessary for certification to teach chemistry at the secondary level. It is considered crucial that graduates be fully-trained chemists, capable of working in a range of technical positions outside of secondary education. The curriculum also seeks to expand the scientific background/perspective of graduates by requiring courses in other scientific disciplines as well as a science history course.
Modul program
This program consists of at least 106 credits distributed as follows: Chemistry (35 credits): CHEM 101 Principles of Chemistry I, CHEM 102 Principles of Chemistry II, CHEM 102L Introductory Chemistry Lab, CHEM 300 Analytical Chemistry, CHEM 301 Physical Chemistry, CHEM 302 Physical Chemistry II, CHEM 311L Advanced Laboratory I, CHEM 351 Organic Chemistry I, CHEM 351L Organic Laboratory I, CHEM 352 Organic Chemistry II, CHEM 405 Inorganic Chemistry. Mathematics (8 credits): MATH 151 Calculus and Analytic Geometry I, MATH 152 Calculus and Analytic Geometry II. Physics (8 credits): PHYS 121 Introductory Physics I, PHYS 122 Introductory Physics II. Education (33 credits): EDUC 310 Inquiry into Education, EDUC 311 Psychological Foundations of Education, EDUC 388 Inclusion and Instruction, EDUC 410 Reading in the Content Area Part I, EDUC 411 Reading in the Content Area Part II, EDUC 412 Analysis of Teaching and Learning, EDUC 427 Teaching Science in the Secondary School, EDUC 456 Internship in Secondary Education, EDUC 457 Internship Seminar in Secondary Education. Other (22 credits): Biol 100 + BIOL 100L Concepts of Biology, ENGL 100 Composition (or qualifying score on placement, 100A or 110), PSYC 100 Introduction to Psychology, HIST 110 Western Civ to 1700 or HIST 111 Western Civ 1700 to present, HIST 445 History of Science to 1700 or HIST 446 History of Science since 1700, GES Elective. Approved Electives: Arts and Humanities (3 courses required) 300 or 400 Level, Language and Culture (3 courses required)300 or 400 Level.
Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional
Students must have a high school diploma or its equivalent and have strong marks. Freshmen who wish to be considered for merit scholarships must sit for the SAT and present a combined critical reading and math score of 1300 or better along with high school marks that are in the top 10 per cent of their class. Otherwise, students educated overseas do not need to sit for the SAT. They must also demonstrate their English Proficiency by TOEFL or IELTS scores. If students TOEFL score falls below 48 on the internet-based, 140 on the computer-based, or 550 on the paper and pencil version, they should consider full-time enrollment in the English Language Center (ELC).
