Southern Studies is the interdisciplinary study of the American South. It brings together authorities from the humanities, social sciences, and sciences to explore the importance of region as a context of human experience. Through a variety of disciplines, including anthropology, art, history, literature, music, politics, religion, and sociology, Southern Studies seeks to investigate the challenges and contributions of the region, in order to situate the South in the fabric of American life. As people face the challenges of globalization, Southern Studies is an important tool in understanding how particular places and spaces will provide ever-changing contexts for the future life. The students learn skills of reading and interpretation, analytical writing, research, and oral presentation. They work with a small core of fellow students and faculty devoted to personal oversight of their work. The program makes use of lectures, class discussions, examinations, research projects, and field trips. Courses take advantage of the South's creative work in literature, music, art, and film in exploring the interdisciplinary meanings of the region.

Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional

Applicants who have completed 12 years of primary and secondary school and received a high school diploma or the equivalent may be admitted if at least one of the following criteria is met: high/secondary school diploma with a minimum 3.20 Grade Point Average (no SAT or ACT entrance exam required unless applying for Academic Excellence Scholarship); high/secondary school diploma with a minimum 2.50 Grade Point Average and a score of 760 or above on the SAT Entrance Exam or 16 and above on the ACT Entrance Exam; high/secondary school diploma with a class rank in the top 50% and a score of 760 on the SAT Entrance Exam or 16 and above on the ACT Entrance Exam; high/secondary school diploma with a minimum 2.00 Grade Point Average and a score of 860 or above on the SAT Entrance Exam or 18 and above on the ACT Entrance Exam. Applicants whose native language is not English should have a minimum TOEFL score of 79-80 in internet based or 213 in computer based or 550 in paper based (or) IELTS score of 6.
