The program for English majors is designed to lay a foundation for careers in writing, teaching, scholarship, and research, as well as for many other types of position in the business and professional world where skills in communication, creative, critical, or analytical writing, public relations, editorial skills, advertising, or the like are required.

Modul program

The courses are: English 310 (Students planning to major in English are strongly encouraged to take this course in the first semester after completion of English 102 or 105), Historical Surveys (This requirement is met by taking a course in each of the following historical divisions. At least one course must be WR.), English 301, English 313 [WR], or English 314 [WR], English 302, English 315 [WR], English 316 [WR] or English 317 [WR], English 311, English 318 [WR], or English 319 [WR], English 312, English 320 [WR], English 321 [WR], English 322 [WR] or English 323 [WR], English Electives at 300 level or above, English Electives at 400 level or above, English 491.

Students should have a complete academic record includes all official transcripts of courses of study completed and degrees/certificates earned at the secondary or collegiate level. Official transcripts of credit earned from U.S. educational institutions should be mailed directly to the Office of Admissions. Undergraduate applicants who have attended post-secondary schools, colleges, universities, or professional institutions outside the United States must submit their academic records to Educational Credentials Evaluators, Inc. (ECE) or World Education Services, Inc. (WES) for a course-by-course evaluation. All applicants for whom English is a second language need to show evidence of sufficient proficiency in the English language. Applicants may demonstrate English proficiency by submitting Test of English as a Second Language (TOEFL) scores of 213 or higher on the computer-based test, 550 or higher on the paper-based test, 79 or higher on the web-based test, or successfully complete the advanced level of the University of Louisville's Intensive English as a Second Language (IESL) Program. Freshmen or transfer applicants with fewer than 24 transferable credit hours are required to submit scores from the American College Testing (ACT) Program. Scores from the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) may be substituted where ACT is unavailable. Students will be asked to demonstrate their financial resources to support their educational and living expenses.
