The Department of History is a unit of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Texas at Tyler. The mission of the Department of History is to prepare students for teaching and other professions; admission to master's and doctoral programs; and careers which require clarity of expression, logical argument, accurate analysis, and effective synthesis of diverse sources of information from American society as well as other societies and civilizations. The department also provides history and philosophy courses for personal enrichment. The department's undergraduate and graduate programs provide each student the opportunity to pursue a broad based liberal arts education that best suits individual intellectual interests and career goals. Programs are designed for careers in a variety of fields, including elementary, secondary, and higher education; law; the ministry; library and archival work; and government.
