The College of Arts and Sciences provides the focus for the University’s statewide liberal arts mission. The fundamental mission of the College is to promote critical reflection and the advancement of knowledge by teaching the Core Curriculum; by offering comprehensive major programs for students; and by encouraging excellence in teaching, scholarly activity, and service on the part of faculty. Students are challenged to address the analytical, historical, cultural, and philosophical foundations of their disciplines, to think critically and creatively, to act with ethical and aesthetic awareness, and to communicate effectively in a free and open exchange of ideas.

All halls are located on main campus and provide study areas, recreation rooms, laundry facilities, kitchens and computer stations. All rooms are equipped with telephone, Internet and cable television access. Typically, two students share a room and four students share a bathroom in what are known as “suite-style” residence halls. There are a limited number of private rooms, where students have their own room and share a bathroom with one other student. There is a common kitchen/living room area in each residence hall that all residents in that building share. GCSU offers a number of choices for on-campus living, from the traditional residence hall on main campus to apartment-style living at The Village. Living on campus is a good way to make friends and to adjust to life at GCSU.
