Drawing provides fundamental skills for students majoring in all areas of the visual arts. The drawing emphasis develops formal and conceptual abilities as the basis for expressive representation and visual communication. Each course is designed to expand students’ understanding of pictorial structures and the process of conceptualization, utilizing a full range of graphic elements. Students are introduced to a variety of media and subject matter, and imagery will be developed through the balance of observation and conceptualization.

Admission to Drake is selective, the admission committee considers the full record of each candidate for admission. Drake prefers students with varied talents and interests, so there is no single, inflexible set of admission standards applied to all candidates. Students should complete their secondary school for admissions into undergraduate programs. Should take the TOEFL and submit scores to Drake. If not done prior to arrival on campus, the TOEFL must be completed during the orientation session before beginning the semester. Submit documented evidence of financial support for educational expenses. Students should submit ACT or SAT scores directly from the testing agency for scholarship consideration or for admission to the pre-professional pharmacy program.
