Uraian Tempat

The dedicated, energetic, and diverse faculty offers a wide variety of courses for undergraduate English majors and minors, as well as for elective seekers interested in literary studies, applied linguistics, creative writing, and rhetoric, composition, and literacy studies. The department also has degree plans in English Language Arts for students interested in becoming middle school or high school teachers. At the graduate level, Master of Arts in English, with tracks in Literary and Cultural Studies or Rhetoric, Composition, and Literacy Studies; a Master of Arts in English as a Second Language; and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing are offered. There is also number of teaching assistantships to support the work of graduate students in these programs. MA and MAESL graduates pursue careers in teaching or advanced doctoral graduate work in English or Applied Linguistics. MFA graduates pursue careers as writers, editors, teachers, and other careers related to creative writing.

Housing at the UTPA Residence Halls is available for UTPA students, faculty, staff, and participants of University- sponsored programs. Space in the residence halls is reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. The University Cafeteria, part of the University Center Complex, is conveniently located southeast of the Residence Halls. All residents must purchase the minimum required meal plan per semester. Each of the Residence Halls is designed in suite style, which is defined as two rooms sharing a bathroom. All rooms are furnished for double occupancy and may be reserved as private rooms in two of the residence halls as space permits. Residents are responsible for providing their own bed linen, blankets, towels, and toiletries. Room contents include: Single beds, desks and task chairs; Chests of drawers, built-in closets; Ethernet connections, TV cable service; Central heat and air. For convenience, the following services are provided: study rooms, TV lounges; computer labs, laundry facilities; snack and soft-drink vending; community kitchenette with microwave; recreation rooms (billiards, ping pong, foosball, game tables) and free student parking permit.
