The Department of Languages and Literature provides a strong and broad-based education in writing, literature, linguistics, and modern languages through an array of majors, minors, and general education courses. It cultivates an appreciation of languages and literatures, enriching the communities served and preparing students to thrive in an increasingly complex and diverse society. Faculty offer courses stressing cultural studies, international literature and issues, foreign languages, children's and adolescent literature, minority literatures, and women's studies. In supporting Ferris's degree granting programs, courses in journalism, technical communication, written communication, and languages are designed to specifically support particular programs on the Ferris campus.

The University provides five on-campus dining facilities, one of which is the award-winning, race car-themed Mascar Grille. Mascar was created with help from out Automotive department and alumni, including the publisher of the magazine Inside NASCAR. Ferris State University offers a number of residence hall options to accommodate student’s preferences. All Ferris residence halls are completely smoke free. All rooms have connections for 100 MB Internet and cable television. A phone with voicemail is also included in each room. Each floor in all halls is equipped with laundry facilities as well as a small kitchenette.
