The modules are 6 hours Communications English 1303 and 1304, 3 hours Mathematics, 3 hours Math Reasoning, 6 hours U.S. History 1377 and 1378, 6 hours American Government, 3 hours Humanities, 3 hours Visual / Performing Arts, 6 hours Natural Sciences, 3 hours Social/Behavioral Sciences, 3 hours Writing in the Disciplines. B.A. Requirements: 6 hours Foreign Language at the 2000 level. College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) requirements: Completion of nine additional semester hours of credit beyond the core in three separate fields of study within the college. Credit cannot be from the major or the foreign language required courses. Satisfactory completion of one of the following requirements: a second major, an approved minor; approved minors are listed in the class schedule, a senior honors thesis, the Professional Development Sequence in Education, teachers certification. History Requirements (36 hours): 3 hours Civilization (2351, 2361, or 3379), 3 hours Civilization (2353, 2363, or 3380), 6 hours 3000-4000 (Advanced) level U.S. History, 6 hours 3000-4000 (Advanced) level NON-U.S. History, 3 hours History at the 4000 level (U.S. or non-U.S.), 3 hours History Capstone Course at the 4000 level (U.S. or non-U.S.), 6 hours History at any level, 6 hours from core U.S. History (1377 and 1378) will also be applied toward major.

Students must meet one of the following college readiness standards in order to be eligible to be considered for admission at a Texas four-year public institution. Students must successfully complete the recommended or advanced high school program or complete the portion of the program that was available to them; or students must have the scores of SAT - 1500 out of 2400 (verbal, math and writing)/ACT - 18 English, 21 reading, 22 mathematics and 24 science; or successfully complete a curriculum that is equivalent in content and rigor to the recommended or advanced high school program at a high school that is exempt from offering such programs. Students that do not meet one of first two requirements must prove they meet the third requirement by having their counselor fill out the high school curriculum certification form and submit to the University of Houston. Students must complete each of the high school academic core courses (four units of English; three units of mathematics, including at least algebra I, algebra II, and geometry; two units of laboratory science, including at least one unit/credit in biology, chemistry, or physics; three units of social studies; two units/credits in one foreign language) with an average of a 2.5 or a “C+” or higher for the group. Students should have secured a minimum score of 550 (paper-based) or 79 (internet-based) on the test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or overall band score of 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or completion of level six of the University of Houston’s Language and Culture Center.
