Ringkasan program
This program prepares students for science-based careers that depend on strong background in scientific and quantitative reasoning and an understanding of the relationship between the natural sciences and mathematics and the social sciences, humanities, and the arts. The curriculum helps students achieve this level of interdisciplinary understanding by explicitly connecting science and mathematics to social issues such as health, environment, education, ethics, and policy. Through sequenced courses and experiential learning opportunities such as internships that address real-world problems, the Interdisciplinary Science curriculum helps students merge theory and practice and learn to appreciate the importance of a scientific approach when investigating problems. Student-centered seminars integrate key scientific concepts and methodologies with how the concepts and methodologies are applied. Science of the environment track - students who choose the Science of the Environment are advised to take a series of courses in chemistry, biology, physics, and mathematics along with courses in the social sciences. With this background students are prepared for graduate programs in environmental studies, policy, management, education, law, and business.
Modul program
Modules covered are as follows: science of the environment track - required courses - energy and sustainability; math models of nature; methods of scientific inquiry; four foundation courses - required: genes, environment and behavior; constructing the laws of nature; chemistry of life; select one from the list below - biology of beauty, sex and death; science and politics of infectious diseases; ecology I; one additional math course - select one from the list below - statistics with SPSS; calculus; one laboratory course - water quality lab; three intermediate/advanced courses (one must be 4000 level) - chemistry of the atmosphere; nanotechnology; what is science; biodiversity achieved; one elective course - any LSCI or LMTH course that has not applied towards satisfying a requirement above.
Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional
Applicants' whose English is not their first language, they will be required to take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). A minimum score of 88 on the Internet-based examination or 230 on the computer-based test is required.
