This department strive to provide a friendly yet challenging learning and research environment so that its students are prepared to either take on employment or further their studies. Its faculties not only teach but carry out pioneering research in a wide variety of areas such as atmospheric science, biophysics, geophysics, materials science, and nano-technology. There are 15 full-time and four research faculty. This includes: an American Geophysical Union fellow, an NSF Career recipient, an Ohio Board of Regents Teaching fellow, and five female faculty.

This university provides campus housing to students through residential halls and apartments. All students are eligible to be accommodated in Hamilton Hall; it has double and triple occupancy rooms. Students who are in the University Honors Program are eligible to be accommodated in Honors Community, it has double occupancy rooms. In the Woods hall all students are eligible to be accommodated in it, has single, double, triple and quad occupancy rooms. Its amenities include fully furnished, suite-style bathroom, cable included, high speed internet, phone with voicemail, microwave, refrigerator, floor lounges, laundry, vending machines, gazebos, grills, garden, air conditioning. The College Park apartment is for 3 quarters of WSU housing, transfer or continuing sophomore, or be at least 21 years of age. It has 4 bedrooms, two bath apartments.
