The Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) has been creating art on the cutting edge for nearly 125 years. With the highest accreditation level possible for an art and design college, MCAD provides students the instruction they need to grow along with the freedom critical to fostering their individual creativity. MCAD’s faculty, comprised exclusively of working artists and designers, is renowned for its ingenuity and expertise. Located in the Whittier neighborhood of south Minneapolis adjacent to two cultural gems of the Twin Cities, The Children's Theatre Company and The Minneapolis Institute of Arts MCAD offers students an ideal mix of support and challenge. The College encourages community participation and engagement in the arts through its Continuing Studies and Youth Programs, exhibitions, lectures, and special events.

MCAD provides apartment-style housing for more than 275 students in co-educational buildings located just 100 yards from the College's Main Building. Competitively priced, apartments are available in single, double and triple occupancies. Unfurnished apartments have a bathroom and kitchen with a refrigerator and range. Furnished apartments also have single beds, dressers, tables, a couch and a dinette set. Each building has self-locking entry doors, coin-operated laundry facilities, soft drink and snack machines and locked mailboxes. RAs provide advice and referrals and supervise each building. RAs also organize social and informational meetings to help residents get to know each other, the campus and the Twin Cities. Each resident is issued keys to the building door, apartment door and mailbox at move-in time. Utility costs (heat, electricity, local phone and water) are included in the housing fee. Electric costs in excess of $30 in any month will be charged back to the residents. Cable TV service is not included in the housing fee. Local phone service is included. Long distance calls must be made collect or charged to a long distance credit card. Mail can be sent to oncampus by using on-campus address and apartment number. Please refer to the assignment notice for the mailing address. No smoking is permitted in MCAD housing. All residence buildings are entirely smoke-free.
