Ringkasan program
This program explores the chemical and physical properties of living organisms and the chemical changes that occur in these organisms. It is integral to the study of a variety of scientific disciplines, including biology, chemistry, microbiology, genetics, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology. It is an interdisciplinary undergraduate degree program offered through the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and the College of Medicine (COM). It draws upon a broad set of University resources from all three colleges to provide students with a modern science-based education designed to emphasize fundamental knowledge of chemistry and biology along with advanced courses specializing in biochemistry and biomedical sciences. The Biochemistry curriculum is challenging, offering students with strong academic abilities in science an opportunity to explore upper-level courses in areas of modern biochemistry. It is designed to meet the needs of students wishing to compete in the job market at the B.S. degree level as well as students planning to continue with advanced studies in a graduate or professional degree program.
Modul program
The modules are as follows: Biochemistry core requires satisfactory completion of BCOR 011, BCOR 012 (Introductory Biology); MATH 021, MATH 022 (Calculus); PHYS 051, PHYS 152 (Physics); CHEM 035, CHEM 036 (Introductory Chemistry); CHEM 143, CHEM 144 (Organic Chemistry); CHEM 162 (Thermodynamics); BIOC 205/CHEM 205/MMG 205, BIOC 206/CHEM 206/MMG 206, and BIOC 207/CHEM 207/MMG 207 (Biochemistry); BIOC 284/CHEM 284/MMG 284 (Senior Seminar) or HON 275, HON 276 (Honors: Biochemistry); BCOR 101 (Genetics); BCOR 103 (Cell Biology); and nine credits of advanced biochemistry-related electives. In addition, students must select one course from the following group of intermediate-level laboratory electives: CHEM 121 (Quantitative Analysis), MMG 104 (Introduction to Recombinant DNA Technology), [[course: MMG 201]] (Molecular Cloning Laboratory), BIOL 204 or BIOL 205 (Advanced Genetics Laboratory). Students may substitute BIOL 001, BIOL 002 for BCOR 011, BCOR 012; PHYS 011, PHYS 012 with PHYS 021, PHYS 022 for PHYS 051, PHYS 152; CHEM 031, CHEM 032 for CHEM 035, CHEM 036; and CHEM 141, CHEM 142 for CHEM 143, CHEM 144. However, the program of study recommended above will provide a better preparation for advanced coursework in Biochemistry.
Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional
Students must have minimum entry requirements: four years of English; three years of mathematics (Algebra I, Algebra II and geometry (or equivalents); two years of the same foreign language (American Sign Language meets this requirement); two years of a natural or physical science, including a laboratory science; three years of social sciences. International students should have a minimum acceptable TOEFL score of both 550 for the paper-based and 79-80 for the iBT and a minimum of IELTS score of 6.5 is required for admission.
