Iowa State University adalah salah satu kolese pertama berdasarkan ‘land-grant’ yaitu bantuan pemerintah federal berupa hibah lahan kepada pemerintah negara bagian, dan menganut prinsip kesetaraan dalam hal kesempatan, pengajaran praktik, dan penyebaran pengetahuan. The mission of the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Department is to promote undergraduate student learning in agricultural and biosystems engineering and industrial and agricultural technology; to promote graduate student learning in agricultural engineering and industrial and agricultural technology; to discover and improve new technologies for all stakeholders and to provide engineering and technology expertise in the fields of agriculture, industry, and biosystems for the state, nation, and world.

Iowa State University has three neighborhoods open all 12 months of the year including winter break. Buchanan Hall is a furnished residence hall located on the south side of campus. Rooms are designed for one or two people with two rooms sharing a bathroom. Kitchenettes are available on most floors. Frederiksen Court Apartments, located on the north side of campus, house four students of the same gender in two or four bedroom fully-furnished apartments. Each unit has a living area, kitchen, and washer/dryer. SUV Apartments, located north of Frederiksen Court, are two-bedroom units available for families or single students and are the most cost-effective on-campus housing option. Most units are unfurnished, but all apartments have full kitchens. Students looking for a more traditional residence hall experience, consider Linden Hall. Linden Hall is open over the winter break but is not open during the summer months.
