This program has become the key competitiveness determinant for organization competitiveness. During the past decade many organizations have extended their supply chains globally. The job description of the purchasing manager goes far beyond the traditional buying function. The purchasing manager is also responsible for cost containment, profitability and relationship building. In 2002 purchasing professionals accounted for 527,000 jobs. Approximately, 42 percent of the positions held were in the manufacturing and wholesaling sectors. The retail trade accounted for another15 percent of the jobs. The remaining 43 percent worked in service establishments, such as hospitals, or different levels of government. Large retailers and manufactures recruit candidates who have completed a bachelor’s degree in business with a purchasing/supply management emphasis. Many manufacturing firms put yet a greater emphasis on formal training, preferring applicants with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, business, economics, or one of the applied sciences. A master’s degree is essential for advancement to many top-level purchasing manager jobs.

Students must have a successful completion of four years of a university preparatory curriculum (also known as college preparatory curriculum or college prep) while in the final four years (grades 9-12) of high school/secondary school such as four units of English, three (four)units of math, three units of natural science with significant lab experience, two (three) units of social science, two (three) units of the same foreign language, one unit of a visual or performing art, one additional unit of the above courses and they must possess the performance in high school/secondary school as shown by class rank or grade point average. They should have the SAT critical reading and verbal score of at least 500 and ACT English score of at least 21. International applicants whose native language is not English must have results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a score of at least 527 on the paper based test, 71 on the Internet-based test, score of at least 79 on the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) and an official band score of at least 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
