This program is designed for individuals who want to become certified to teach children in the age range of prekindergarten (e.g., ages 3 and 4) to fourth grade (age 9). It prepares teachers for work in a variety of pre-school and elementary education settings and they will be prepared to effectively support the early social, cognitive, and academic development of young children, particularly in urban contexts. The program emphasizes holistic approach to child development that promotes positive social, emotional, cognitive, and academic growth; integration of language and literacy skills across the curriculum to ensure early school readiness and fluent reading by third grade; and preparation of teachers to work effectively with diverse learners, particularly through strategies for differentiating instruction and implementing inclusive, innovative and equitable pedagogies.

Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional

Applicant must have completed the equivalent of an American secondary school education (usually 12 years of formal education) and have the appropriate graduation diplomas or satisfactory leaving examination results. Applicants still attending their secondary school (usually the first 12 years of schooling and equivalent to a U.S. high school) or if they have taken fewer than 15 credits (generally four to five courses or one-half year of study) at an institution of higher education after satisfactorily completing their secondary schooling can also apply. They should have grade point average of 3.0 in college-prep courses with B average. They must have obtained minimum TOEFL scores of 550 for paper-based test, 213 for computer-based test, and 79 for internet-based test; or they should have IELTS minimum score of 6.0.
