This program focuses on financial markets and topics ranging from financing of corporations and government, to the pricing of financial assets such as bonds, stocks, derivative securities and real estate assets. Some graduates of the UMBC economics program enter the business world immediately after graduation while others earn an M.B.A. and then enter management positions. Research jobs are also available in business or in government service at the local, state or federal levels.

Modul program

The financial economics core courses - students may choose any four of the following courses (12 credits): ECON 301, Intermediate Accounting I, ECON 410, Topics in Financial Management, ECON 453, Household Economics, ECON 463, Theory of Public Finance, ECON 471, Money and Capital Markets, ECON 474, Cases in Corporate Finance, ECON 475, The Economics of Financial Analysis, ECON 476, Portfolio Analysis and Management, ECON 477, Analysis of Derivative Securities, ECON 478, Real Estate Economics and Finance, ECON 482, International Finance, ECON 410, Topics in Financial Management. ECON 471 or ECON 475 must be included as one of the four courses. The public sector finance elective courses included in the general core or financial economics core (if not used in the core): ECON 463, Theory of Public Finance, ECON 421, Econometrics. Other suggested electives: ECAC 330 Principles of Taxation, ECON 403 Economic Growth and Cycles, ECON 405 Benefit Cost Analysis, ECON 414 Public Policy Toward Business, ECON 415 Property Rights, Organizations and Management, ECON 416 The Economics of Law, ECON 464 State and Local Public Finance, ECON 472 Monetary Theory and Policy, POLI 353 Government Budgeting and Financial Management.

Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional

Students must have a high school diploma or its equivalent and have strong marks. Freshmen who wish to be considered for merit scholarships must sit for the SAT and present a combined critical reading and math score of 1300 or better along with high school marks that are in the top 10 per cent of their class. Otherwise, students educated overseas do not need to sit for the SAT. They must also demonstrate their English Proficiency by TOEFL or IELTS scores. If students TOEFL score falls below 48 on the internet-based, 140 on the computer-based, or 550 on the paper and pencil version, they should consider full-time enrollment in the English Language Center (ELC).
