The Engineering Technology curriculum and overall teaching philosophy at Prairie View A and M University continues a long tradition, even before the existence of formal engineering schooling, when engineering science was handed down from experienced mentor/teacher to student/apprentice. The faculty of the Engineering Technology Department closely works with the students in the various state-of-the-art laboratories it has within the Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology Programs. The entire Departmental faculty is prepared from real-world engineering experience to help students in their various laboratory-based projects. The students learn what engineering experience has taught the faculty, thus assuring students that they will spend their time learning about what will be needed on the job. In effect, engineering technology is more real-world engineering instruction of current technology and how to use it effectively to solve problems and less mathematical derivations. The goal of the programs is to turn out graduates well prepared for industry and graduate work.

At University, students can have the privacy and lifestyle that they deserve in a freshmen student community that is conducive to achieving academic success. With a great location, private bedroom accommodations, fully furnished units, individual liability leases and extensive community amenities, there is no reason to look anywhere else. Interior features includes the following: regular twin size bed, microwave, refrigerator, cable television service included, mirrored walls and doors, computer desk, housekeeping service, ample closet space, fully furnished units, wireless internet, and disability access. The university has four student housing communities, including apartments for upper classmen and a living and learning community just for freshmen. Students can request two or four bedroom apartments (upper classmen) and the roommate(s) of their choice.
