This program blends theory and practice to prepare its graduates for careers in fields such as software systems development, e-commerce, and network administration. The program focuses on the application of information technology to facilitate the management and operation of organizations. In addition to general education courses required of all undergraduates, the CIS major concentrates on computing and network technology and the organization context in which these technologies are employed to solve business problems. Many career opportunities await the Computer Information Systems graduate. Information systems technologists can be found in a broad spectrum of careers in the private and public sectors including administration, supervision, systems analysis, training, and consulting.

Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional

Students must meet one of the following college readiness standards in order to be eligible to be considered for admission at a Texas four-year public institution. Students must successfully complete the recommended or advanced high school program or complete the portion of the program that was available to them; or students must have the scores of SAT - 1500 out of 2400 (verbal, math and writing)/ACT - 18 English, 21 reading, 22 mathematics and 24 science; or successfully complete a curriculum that is equivalent in content and rigor to the recommended or advanced high school program at a high school that is exempt from offering such programs. They should have cumulative GPA of 2.5 on any prior college level courses is required. Students that do not meet one of first two requirements must prove they meet the third requirement by having their counselor fill out the high school curriculum certification form and submit to the University of Houston. Students must complete each of the high school academic core courses (four units of English; three units of mathematics, including at least algebra I, algebra II, and geometry; two units of laboratory science, including at least one unit/credit in biology, chemistry, or physics; three units of social studies) with an average of a 2.5 or a “C+” or higher for the group. Students should have secured a minimum score of 550 (paper-based) or 79 (internet-based) on the test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or overall band score of 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or completion of level six of the University of Houston’s Language and Culture Center.
