Ringkasan program

This program is directed toward students who wish to pursue creative careers in music technology and who wish to pursue work in association with other artistic disciplines. Each curriculum strives to balance the development of artistic and creative skills with the mastery of the technical aspects of the discipline. The focus is on the creation of new types of musical and intermedia content, not on the vocational training of recording engineers or related technicians. Courses emphasize electronic music and intermedia composition, new performance paradigms that employ sensors, gaming and wireless network devices, and real-time interactive musical and media environments.

The modules are music core requirements: MUS 131, MUS 132, MUS 133 - Music Theory I, II, III (2, 2, 2) Elementary study of musical structure, emphasizing the acquisition of descriptive, notational, compositional, and analytical capacity, MUS 134, MUS 135, MUS 136 - Aural Skills I, II, III (2, 2, 2) Elementary ear training through sight singing, dictation, and related activities, MUS 137, MUS 138, MUS 139 - Keyboard Skills I, II, III (1, 1, 1) Performance of rhythmic patterns, scales, intervals, and chord progressions, Harmonization, transposition, improvisation, and figured bass on the keyboard MUS 231, MUS 232, MUS 233 - Music Theory IV, V, VI (2, 2, 2) Continuation of MUS 131-133. Prereq: MUS 133 or equivalent proficiency, MUS 234, MUS 235, MUS 236 - Aural Skills IV, V, VI (2, 2, 2) Continuation of MUS 134-136. Prereq: MUS 136 or equivalent proficiency, MUS 237, MUS 238, MUS 239 - Keyboard Skills IV, V, VI (1, 1, 1) Continuation of MUS 137-139. Prereq: MUS 139 or equivalent proficiency, MUS 168 - Guided Listening (1) Guided listening experience designed to aid in acquisition of listening skills and experience with the most important repertoire, genres, and styles of Western music, MUS 267, MUS 268, MUS 269 - Survey of Music History (4, 4, 4) Study of the history and evolution of music, principally Western art music, from the early Middle Ages to the present. Prereq: WR 121, MUS 132, pass Listening Repertoire Identification Exam, MUS 324, MUS 325, MUS 326 - Analysis (3, 3, 3) Techniques of analyzing melody, harmony, rhythm, and form in music from various periods. Prereq: MUS 232, 235, 238, 267, 268, 269; or equivalent proficiency, MUS 358 - Music in World Cultures (4) African, East European, and Indonesian music’s in sociocultural context, emphasis on listening skills, relationships between music and culture, aesthetics, styles, genres, music structures and forms, and participatory music making. General Studies: WR 121 and 122 or 123 - College Composition I and II or III (4, 4), Two Multicultural Courses (4, 4), Science Group (15-16), Arts and Letters Group (15-16), Social Science Group (15-16). Performance Studies (Instrument and Ensemble): at least 3 terms, the last term of which must be at the MUP 170 level or above. No more than 24 credits in performance studies will count towards the degree: a maximum of 12 each in lower-division and upper-division. Each term in which a student is enrolled in performance studies, he or she must also be enrolled in an appropriate ensemble.

Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional

Students must have satisfactorily completed high school (secondary school) with a B average or a 3.00 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.00 scale and should have a basic knowledge of dance and music as art forms and technical training in dance. Students must have a minimum score of 500 on the paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language or 61 on the internet-based TOEFL or a minimum score of 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
