This program is designed to ensure exposure to a broad base of biological knowledge, to provide depth of experience in advanced topics, and to develop competence in scientific disciplines that are supportive of biological endeavors (mathematics, data analysis, physics, and chemistry). Besides these general categories, the latitude in choice of major courses is another important feature of the biology major. Students, in consultation with their adviser, may devise a broad program in the biological sciences, or a more specialized curriculum, depending on their academic interests. Formulation of career aspirations and communication of them to their academic adviser are important aspects of their major program. Mid-program changes are often made and students frequently use the biology major to explore biological sciences before deciding on a specific program. Employment opportunities depend partially upon the chosen courses in the major program, as well as laboratory and research experience. Students with a particular field of employment in mind should alert their adviser so that the best curriculum may be developed toward that goal. Biology students often continue in careers such as research scientist or college professor, perhaps in one of these hot fields. For these careers, students must first obtain a Ph.D. degree. More often, a biology student goes on to a career in medicine or some other health science. In the private sector, a master's degree may be sufficient for a research or product development position.

Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional

Students must have a successful completion of four years of a university preparatory curriculum (also known as college preparatory curriculum or college prep) while in the final four years (grades 9-12) of high school/secondary school such as four units of English, three (four)units of math, three units of natural science with significant lab experience, two (three) units of social science, two (three) units of the same foreign language, one unit of a visual or performing art, one additional unit of the above courses and they must possess the performance in high school/secondary school as shown by class rank or grade point average. They should have the SAT critical reading and verbal score of at least 500 and ACT English score of at least 21. International applicants whose native language is not English must have results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a score of at least 527 on the paper based test, 71 on the Internet-based test, score of at least 79 on the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) and an official band score of at least 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
