Ringkasan program

The emergency management major develops the knowledge, skills and abilities needed for leadership in emergency management, with a focus on disaster prevention, planning, preparedness, response, mitigation and recovery. The curriculum covers needs and issues, operations management, planning and response and terrorism and is designed to provide students with a global outlook, interpersonal skills and emergency management knowledge and skills. Students are prepared for management positions in emergency management in government and industry or for graduate study in emergency management, homeland security or management and leadership. The student who graduates with a major in emergency management will be able to analyze the response of government and industry to disasters and other significant events in history which resulted in current emergency management principles and policies, describe current emergency management policies, operational theories and functions, in relation to significant and potential disasters, describe the importance and interaction of ethical, political, social, environmental and economic considerations to emergency management planning and operations, demonstrate the critical thinking and program management skills necessary to provide leadership and support in emergency situations, explain the importance of leadership and performance in emergency management and identify the leadership traits of competent emergency management personnel, describe and analyze integrated emergency management planning and operations in relation to public safety agencies, different levels of government, nongovernmental organizations, private industry and public policy.

Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional

Students should possess graduation from high school or successful completion of the GED examination with a total score of 225 and no score below 40 on any of the five tests (if taken prior to January 2002) or a total score of 2250 and no score below 410 (if taken January 2002 or later). They must have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 2.0 or better on all college-level work attempted at other regionally accredited colleges and universities. They need to demonstrate college-level proficiency in written English to University of Maryland University College (UMUC) by means of one of the following: a minimum score of 550 on the written version, 213 on the computer version, or 79 on the internet version of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); a minimum score of 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), including the academic writing and academic reading modules; a minimum grade of Pre-1 on the Eiken English Proficiency Exam; a transcript indicating completion of a degree from a U.S. regionally accredited college or university; a transcript indicating a grade of C or higher in an English composition course from a regionally-accredited U.S. college or university. If they have earned fewer than 24 semester hours at a U.S. college or university, they verify the completion of the equivalent of a U.S. secondary education by requesting an evaluation from an approved international credit evaluation agency and providing official transcripts showing completion of the U.S. GED exam with a total score of at least 2250 and no individual test score below 410.
