Doctoral studies 48 credits, Major Area (26 credits) area studies (14 credits, including 6 credits of applied conducting and studies in orchestral or band literature, score reading, etc.), dissertation requirement (12 credits), recital preparation (6 credits of MUSC 891), 4 recitals (4 credits from MUSC 892 and 896) document (2 credits of MUSC 897), MUSC 747 Advanced Research (2 credits), Cognate Studies (20 credits of approved studies in music history [minimum of two 700-level courses], music theory, etc.)

Applicants must have earned a masters degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university. International students whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency by obtaining minimum TOEFL score of 600 (paper-based) or 250 (computer-based). Applicants may also take the International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) in lieu of the TOEFL. A minimum score of 7.0 is required for the IELTS. Admission also requires submission of scores on either the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT).
