This program is an entry-level degree that prepares individuals for professional practice in the area of audiology. The program of study is designed to meet the minimum academic and clinical requirements for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) awarded by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. The program is also designed to meet the requirements for state licensure, to expose students to basic and applied research, to provide practical and research experience, and to develop skills in the use of evidence-based practice. The Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program has interim accreditation by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. The program consists of three years of course work and integrated clinical experiences followed by an academic year of focused external practical. Course work includes the study of assessment procedures, amplification systems, aural rehabilitation, electrophysiological measures, central auditory processing, pediatrics, gerontology, noise, counseling, deafness, and sign language. Classes are small and individual student-faculty contact is maximized. Students participate in a directed research experience and an array of basic and applied research Activities.

Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional

Applicant must have obtained a baccalaureate or higher degree, prior to the start of the NIU term for which the student is admitted, from an accredited U.S. college or university or the equivalent degree from a recognized foreign institution. An applicant for admission is generally expected to meet or exceed the following requirements. A minimum 3.20 GPA (on a 4.00 scale) in all undergraduate coursework and competitive scores on the GRE General Test also required. An applicant whose native language is not English must present a TOEFL score of at least 213 on the scale of 0-300, or at least 550 on the older scale of 310-677 where applicable (in certain countries). The score must be for an examination administered no more than 24 months prior to the beginning of the academic term for which admission is sought. Prospective students who fail to meet the GPA requirement for admission may request special consideration of the applications. Such requests must be in writing, must include compensatory evidence related to the deficiency, and should accompany the application for admission to the Graduate School. These requests will typically be considered from students competing undergraduate degrees in fields other than communication sciences and disorders. Decisions regarding admissions are made by the program's admission committee on the basis of a total profile of an applicant's qualifications.
