This joint degree with a concentration in health law and bioethics provides a unique and valuable perspective on the field of bioethics through combining the philosophical study of bioethics with a legal education. Candidates usually spend the first year in law school, adding courses from the IU Department of Philosophy during the second year. In addition to the basic required law school courses, students in this program will be required to complete the requirements for the concentration in health law. The capstone project for this joint degree program will be a paper in a topic that addresses the fields of law and bioethics. This paper will satisfy both the advanced research and writing requirement at the law school and the thesis/research project in the Department of Philosophy. Up to six credits of health law courses are counted toward the 30 credits required for the MA in Philosophy. Students who complete P803 as part of the JD/MA program will also receive six credits toward the 90 credits required for the JD in Law. The two degrees are obtained with a total of 108 earned credits, as compared with the 120 credits required if the degrees are obtained separately.

Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with an overall undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.0 and a minimum grade point average of a 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 in the student’s undergraduate major. here is no specific major requirement, but applicants must show a record of coursework (or equivalent experience) demonstrating that they are sufficiently prepared to do graduate work in philosophy. Acceptable coursework includes an undergraduate degree in philosophy. International applicants must have a minimum TOEFL score of 550(paper-based version), 213 (computer-based version), 79 (Internet-based version) or an IELTS score of 6.0 or successful completion of ELS Language Centers Intensive Program Level 112. Students from Japan must have a "Pre-First Grade" score on the STEP Eiken. After being admitted, students may require to take one or more supplemental EAP courses to develop additional language proficiency if TOEFL scores are below 80 (iBT), 550 (PBT) or 213 (CBT) in IUPUI EAP placement test.
