This course Doctor of Philosophy degree in Criminal Justice is designed to train graduate students in a field that is increasingly marketable. The graduate programs permit students to engage in focused study of the problems of crime, crime control, and the criminal justice system while simultaneously developing a strong foundation in related areas of criminological theory, research methods, and administration. Doctoral students are prepared to conduct research in the various areas of criminological theory, crime control, and correctional and police administration and to pursue teaching and/or research positions in academia or research positions within the criminal justice system itself. The curriculum will afford training to students in four areas: 1) criminological theory, 2) advanced research skills, 3) teaching in academia, and 4) specialization in one of three areas – Criminology, Corrections, and Policing.

Applicant must hold a requisite degree from an educational institution of recognized standing. At the baccalaureate level, have earned a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 or equivalent. Have completed courses in intermediate microeconomic theory, calculus, and statistics. Show potential to undertake advanced study and research as evidenced by academic performance and experience. The TOEFL examination is required of international applicants. A minimum score of 550 (paper test) or 213 (computer test) must be achieved. The Graduate Record exam (GRE) is required of all applicants not receiving their baccalaureate degrees from U.S., Canadian, or partner universities. Three letters of recommendation are generally required before action is taken on any application.
