The Department of Materials Science and Engineering addresses the education and technological challenges of creating, applying and characterizing new materials for manufacturing products for the 21st Century. They are committed to training students at the graduate level in all aspects of modern materials including metals, ceramics, polymers, electronic and optical materials, and materials characterization. Students have opportunities for hands-on research with modern equipment and facilities. The Department has strong collaborative programs with other Metroplex universities and with industry throughout the world. Students have an opportunity to develop highly marketable skills and have readily obtained jobs with high-technology companies in electronics, chemical, electric power and environmental industries, as well as academia.

The University of North Texas’ 14 residence halls provide students with a wide range of lifestyles. All-female, coed and upper-class halls offer a variety of learning opportunities. Most halls are specially modified to accommodate disabled students. The following list of halls that are available for accommodation Bruce Hall, Clark Hall, College Inn, Crumley Hall, Honors Hall, Kerr Hall, Legends Hall, Maple Hall, Mozart Square, Santa Fe Square, Traditions Hall, Victory Hall, West Hall. Each of these residence halls has its own personality, and various living-learning communities are available. The campus offers numerous options for eating healthy, including salads, sushi and low-fat entrees. Some dining halls provide vegan/vegetarian entrees. All unmarried undergraduate students who have graduated from high school the semester prior to enrolling at UNT, who have completed fewer than thirty (30) semester hours of university work (any hours completed while in high school not included in the thirty hours) and who enroll for nine or more semester hours are required to reside in university operated residence halls under a contractual room and board plan as long as space is available.
