Ringkasan program
This area encompasses the broad field of computer-aided design including design methodology and computer graphics, as well as kinematics and dynamics of machines, vibrations, design of machine elements, controls, automation, and techniques for assessing reliability. Current areas of research include non-linear dynamics and vibrations, expert systems, machine tool calibration, control of robot vehicles, sensor and gripper design, kinematic design and optimization, computer-aided design of control systems, damage state estimation and failure prognostics, precision machining, surface roughness analysis, and robot-assisted waterjet machining. Facilities include the Robotics Research Center, Precision Engineering Lab, Nonlinear Dynamics and Vibrations Lab, and Waterjet Machining Lab. Completion of a minimum of 24 course credits (exclusive of seminar) beyond the master's degree with one course outside the student's major area. Full-time students must enroll in graduate seminar, MCE 501 and 502, each semester. Candidacy review, written and oral comprehensive examinations and a dissertation.

Admission requirements are students with high intellectual capacity and an ability to work with some degree of independence. Applicants for the masters degree should have a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering, applied mechanics or a closely related engineering field, and have established a "B" (3.0/4.0) or better record in their previous undergraduate work. Doctoral applicants should hold a master's degree in one of these areas, and have demonstrated at least a "B+" average (3.4/4.0) in their previous master's work. All applicants should have a mathematics background equivalent to MCE 372 (ordinary differential equations, basic matrix theory, Laplace transforms, elementary vector calculus, Fourier series, introduction to partial differential equations). They also should have sufficient computer skills to effectively use personal computers and/or workstations and be familiar with at least one of the common engineering programming languages, e.g. FORTRAN, BASIC, MATLAB, C, etc. The GRE General Test and TOEFL are required of international applicants. Average test scores for successful international applicants have been: GRE 450-Verbal and 700-Quantitative (data on Analytical Writing is not yet established); TOEFL 590 (written exam) or 240 (computer-based exam). A direct Ph.D. program is available to exceptional candidates holding a B.S. degree.
