This program attracts outstanding students from across the nation and around the world. Students in this program work closely with a primary advisor, who supervises their graduate training through formal coursework and supervised research and teaching activities. Paths through the graduate program vary by subfield and by individual student. The advisor and a doctoral committee supervise the completion of key program requirements, including the comprehensive examination, proposal defense, and dissertation research. The archaeology program maintains strong linkages with the museum of natural and cultural history and other units on campus, such as the CAMCOR lab, the comprehensive materials characterization center at the University of Oregon. Archaeology is a subfield of anthropology that examines the ancient and recent human past through material remains. It is a subfield of anthropology, the study of all human culture. From artifacts found with fossilized remains of the earliest human ancestors in Africa dating to millions of years ago, to 20th century buildings in urban or rural Oregon, archaeology analyzes the physical remains of the past in pursuit of a broad and comprehensive understanding of human cultures.

Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional

Students must have a valid master’s degree in anthropology from a recognized institution or on the completion of three of the master’s core courses. Those who enter with a master’s degree in another discipline should take master’s core courses early in the program. Students must have a minimum Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 575 on the paper-based test.

The Department of Anthropology is dedicated to better understanding human cultural and biological origins and diversity through education and research. The faculty is committed to excellence in teaching and to the advancement of knowledge through local, national, and international programs of research. As anthropologists, all are engaged in understanding recent and historical developments in the world at large, and we also seek to bring anthropological perspectives to bear on the problems of a modern global society. The department embraces a broad intellectual pluralism where different theoretical and methodological approaches are recognized and valued. The Department of Anthropology is located in Condon Hall, which houses most laboratories, teaching facilities, and faculty and graduate student offices. The Department of Anthropology’s main office is located in 308 Condon Hall. Condon Hall serves as the core of the department, with most offices, labs, and teaching facilities located on the second or third floors of Condon Hall. However, several individual offices and laboratories are located in other campus buildings. In 1938, the Department of Anthropology awarded its first master’s degree to Robin Drews. Dr. Homer G. Barnett, who joined the department in 1939, was away during World War II, but returned thereafter. Dr. Theodore Stern was appointed in 1948, and Dr. William S. Laughlin came in 1949. With this last hire, the new department represented the four major fields of anthropology: archaeology, cultural anthropology, linguistic anthropology, and physical anthropology. In 1952 the department was authorized to grant the Ph.D. Many things have changed since the early days. Today the head of the department is different from the head of the museum of natural and cultural history. Today as well there are at least as many female as there are male professionals associated with the department and the museum. Yet the tie between the two entities is as strong as ever.

Accommodation is provided at various residence halls such as Barnhart, Bean, Carson, Earl, Hamilton, Living-Learning Center, Riley and Walton. Room types ranges from Double which is available at Bean, Earl, Hamilton and Walton halls and cost of accommodation is $8211 per year, Double room with Sink is available at Carson hall only and costs $8610 per year. Enhanced double rooms is available at Earl, Living Learning Center and Walton halls and it costs $8610 per year, Deluxe double rooms is available at Barnhart and Hamilton and it cost $9805 per year, Enhanced Deluxe double rooms is available at Barnhart and it costs $12196 per year, Small Single rooms is available at Riley and Walton halls and it costs $9008 per year. Study lounges, television rooms, game areas, and laundry facilities are features in all the buildings. All rooms are furnished with a bed, desk, chair, blinds, wastebasket, recycle bin, and a closet for each resident. Most halls are single-gender by floor or wing, except in Barnhart, LLC, and Riley halls, which are single-gender by room. All buildings are nonsmoking. The highly rated dining program offers three meal plans as part of the room and board package; Deluxe Meal Plan - approximately nineteen meals/week-This plan is best for students who seldom skip a meal and occasionally treat a friend. Standard Meal Plan - approximately sixteen meals/week - This plan is the most popular, providing enough for meals and snacks throughout the week. Mini Meal Plan - approximately thirteen meals/week - This plan is designed for students who plan to eat a minimal number of meals on campus.
