The School of Theatre is now accepting applications for the PhD program. The Theatre Studies faculty, with diverse backgrounds in scholarship, academics and performance, are working with a new organizing principle, “from evidence to action” that expresses the Theatre Studies faculty’s commitment to a process that moves from collecting and analyzing evidence to creating action in the forms of written and performed research. We deploy a variety of methodologies and approaches to collect and analyze various forms of evidence—documents, interviews, images, objects, as well as play scripts. Our methodologies reflect the most current developments in theatre research, while still respecting tried and true methods of the past. These methods include: Historiography, Ethnography, Cultural Studies, Critical Race and Gender Studies, Dramaturgy, and Textual Analysis. In addition to offering specific courses in each of these methods, they are integrated throughout our curriculum.

Welcome to the School of Theatre at Florida State. As one of the top-tier theatre training programs in the nation, the School of Theatre challenges its students to grow as artists and individuals as they explore the world of theatre and where they fit into it. The School provides its students with a wide variety of theatrical and educational opportunities. The primary mission of the School of Theatre is to offer students a comprehensive education in theatre and to prepare emerging artists to enter the professional theatre industry. As a result, from grand-scale musicals to intimate productions, the School of Theatre provides both student artists and community audience members a diverse array of productions that explore the spectrum of our shared humanity.

Florida State University offers several housing options in order to meet the various needs of graduate students. University Housing is committed to providing a comfortable environment that promotes and supports the educational mission of the University.Besides the traditional residence halls available to undergraduate students, FSU has several options for non-traditional undergraduates (23 years of age or older, married, single parent, etc.) and all graduate students. Students may choose from Rogers Hall, Alumni Village or designated spaces in Ragans Hall. Be advised that Rogers and Ragans halls are reserved for single students. Rogers Hall and Alumni Village offer a month-to-month contract, while Ragans Hall only offers a semester contract. Alumni Village offers graduate students a variety of housing options including one and two-bedroom flats and two and three bedroom town houses. Many graduate students relocate with their families; Alumni Village offers comfortable housing for them. Single graduate students can also reside at Alumni Village either alone or with another FSU graduate student roommate of the same gender (selected by the resident).The Florida Clean Air Act, effective as of October 1, 1993, prohibits smoking within any state university system educational facility. Therefore smoking is prohibited in indoor public areas as well as student rooms, apartments and suites.Housing Agreements for graduate students are available after a student has offically been admitted to FSU. To apply for housing, you must do the following: 1) Complete an electronic housing agreement by accessing the on-line application available on the housing website (www.housing.fsu. edu). 2) Return a paper housing agreement with all required information and return it with a non-refundable advance payment of $75, payable to Florida State University.
