The Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS) was established in June 1970, with Professor Américo Paredes as one of its principal founders and first director. CMAS is a unit within the College of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas at Austin. The mission of CMAS is to serve Texas and the nation as a leader in teaching, research, and publications. The establishment of CMAS represents an institutional recognition of the importance of the Mexican American people in the history, culture, and society of the United States.

The Division of Housing and Food Service is dedicated to providing quality food service to the university community. All dining venues are open to anyone who visits campus. It encourages everyone to experience the convenience and variety offered in each of its dining locations. It accept Cash, Bevo Bucks and Dine in Dollars (10%discount) and major credit cards. On-campus housing can hold more than 7,100 students. Jester Center is the largest residence hall with its capacity of 2,945. Academic enrollment exceeds the capacity of on-campus housing; as a result, most students must live in private residence halls, housing cooperatives, apartments, or with Greek organizations and other off-campus residences. The Division of Housing and Food Service, which already has the largest market share of 7,000 of the estimated 27,000 beds in the campus area, plans to expand to 9,000 beds in the near future.
