The developmental biology addresses a fundamental question: how do organisms develop from zygotes? As a discipline, developmental biology encompasses genetics, cell biology, physiology and evolution; as an area of current biomedical research, it provides insights into complex processes that, when disrupted, result in disease. One aspect of developmental biology, the specification and differentiation of distinct cell lineages, has led to the identification and isolation of embryonic, fetal and adult stem cells. Stem cell biology, an area of intense current interest, holds great promise for the potential treatment of human disease and for understanding basic questions in development. It is to produce young scientists who are skilled in the experimental techniques of developmental and cell biology and committed to careers that will advance understanding in these areas, including applications that will ultimately help alleviate human disease.

The modules for first year are G310 Laboratory Rotation (4 cr), G300 Core I: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (4 cr), G320 Biostatistics (3 cr), G312 Responsible Conduct of Research (1 cr), G315 Introduction to Journal Club (1 cr), G590 Dean's Lecture Series (1 cr), G311 Laboratory Rotation (4 cr), G305 Core II: Cell and Developmental Biology (4 cr), G340 Core III: Advanced Topics in Developmental and Cell Biology I (3 cr), G395 Methods (2 cr), G316 Introduction to Journal Club II (1 cr). Modules for second year are G 800 Independent Research (8 cr), Advanced Topics in Developmental and Cell Biology II or Elective (3 cr), Department of DRB and BFSCI Seminar Series (1 cr), Developmental, Regenerative and Stem Cell Biology Work in Progress (1 cr), G465 Journal Club in Developmental and Stem Cell Biology (1 cr). Advanced year modules are G 800_Independent Research (8 cr), G465 Journal Club in Developmental and Stem Cell Biology (1 cr), Department of DRB or BFSCI Seminar Series (1 cr), Department of DRB Work in Progress (1 cr).

Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional

Students must submit application form and by submitting the research-oriented MD/PhD online application form. They must have had research experience and should have taken advanced courses in science (e.g., physical chemistry, genetics, biochemistry). The MD/PhD application form is the only written material which must be submitted in addition to the application materials to the Medical School. They must submit 3 letters of recommendation from research advisors and GRE scores. Based on the application materials, a group of highly qualified applicants will be selected for interview.
