This program produces educators in mathematics who are well versed in current research and theories about mathematics learning and teaching. Graduates teach mathematics at all levels, from early childhood through college, and serve as leaders across the field. The program focuses on analysis of theories about curriculum development and implementation, learning and assessment, and becoming an agent of change in mathematics education. It will typically two to three take years to complete the degree if students are enrolled full-time (nine hours per semester). This program is for students who have a B.S. or B.A in a mathematics-related field and are seeking 4th - 8th or 8th - 12th grade mathematics teaching certification and an M.Ed. The program is designed to overlap with the student’s certification plan to allow for simultaneous completion of certification requirements and M.Ed. requirements. This program emphasizes the following essential mathematics skills are analysis of theories and models of learning and teaching, analysis of curriculum development and resources, analysis of current issues in mathematics education, development of reflective thinking toward ongoing improved instructional practices, analysis and design of mentoring, coaching and other research-based professional development programs and analysis and critique of various research designs. It prepares professionals to work in various roles in settings such as: schools and child-related agencies, hospitals, mental health care facilities and industry. Graduates will be qualified for the following careers are community college instructor, curriculum specialist, early childhood-6th grade general classroom teacher, fourth-8th grade mathematics teacher, mathematics department chair (middle or high schools) and mathematics content coach/mentor.

Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional

Students must have earned a four-year baccalaureate degree or higher degree from an accredited college or university, equivalent of a U.S. Bachelor’s degree. They must have earned an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 to be unconditionally accepted into the master’s program. Those students with a GPA less than 3.0, but not below 2.6 (A = 4.0) may be admitted conditionally. International students should have obtained a minimum TOEFL score of 550 on the paper based exam or 213 for the computer-based exam or 79 on the Internet based (iBT) is generally acceptable proof of English proficiency. The minimum required IELTS score for admissions is 6.5 on a scale from 1 to 9.
