The program of study consists of a minimum of 45 credit hours, of which two-thirds of the work must be in the major area and one-third in the minor area.

Modul program

The following are the modules: Core curriculum. These courses are required to graduate from the graduate program (number of credit hours in parentheses): CE 570 - Shear Strength and Slope Stability (4); CE 571 - Advanced Foundation Engineering (4); CE 572 - Advanced Laboratory Testing of Soils (4); CE 573 - Earth Structures (Seepage and Consolidation) (4); CE 575 - Earth Retention and Support (Lateral Earth Pressures and Retaining Structures) (4); CE 578 - Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering (4); Geotechnical Electives. These courses are offered yearly or every other year: CE 514 - Groundwater Hydraulics (3); CE 518 - Groundwater Modeling (4); CE 570 - Finite Element Modeling in Geotechnics (3) ; CE 574 - Engineering Properties of Soils (3); CE 576 - Soil and Site Improvement (3); CE 592 - Pavement Structures (3); Recommended electives and minor concentrations. Geotechnical engineers work in multi-disciplinary settings, spending significant time in collaboration with structural, construction, and environmental engineers. The following courses are highly recommended for all geotechnical engineering graduate students: Structural Engineering Courses: CE 531 - Structural Mechanics (required for Ph.D. students) (3); CE 585 - Matrix Structural Analysis (4); CE 589 - Seismic Design (4); Additionally, these possible electives are recommended: CE 505 - Construction Site Operations and Systems Engineering; CE 505 - Digital Terrain Modeling; CE 527 - Temporary Construction Structures; CE 532 - Finite Element Analysis; CEM 552 - Risk Management in Construction; CE 561 - Photogrammetry; CE 580 - Advanced Concrete Design; CE 583 - Bridge Design; CE 534 - Structural Dynamics (4); BEE 542 - Vadose Zone Transport (4); BEE 546 - River Engineering (4); ENVE 534 - Fate and Transport of Chemicals in Environmental Systems (4); ENVE 554 - Groundwater Remediation (4); GEO 561 - Geology of Earthquakes (3); Additional courses may be selected at the discretion of the major professor.

Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional

Applicants must have a degree equivalent to a four-year U.S. bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. A "B" average (3.00 GPA on a 4.00 scale) on the last two years of undergraduate work is required and any work completed thereafter. If the student has completed his or her baccalaureate degree in a country that is a signatory of the Bologna Declaration, then a baccalaureate degree of at least three years duration with a B average (equivalent 3.00 on a U.S. 4.00 grading scale) in the last two years, plus all subsequent graded course work is required or a baccalaureate degree of at least three years duration with a two-year (equivalent to 45-quarter credits) graduate degree. International applicants must have TOEFL scores as follows: Paper score of 550 (600); Internet (iBT) score of 80 (100) Minimum score of 18 on each section and IELTS score of 6.5.
