This program prepares students for many professional opportunities in research and education through an interdisciplinary approach that includes a number of degree concentrations in addition to a number of degree paths. It offers areas of concentration in human geography, physical geography, GIS and cartography. A minimum of 30 semester hours of course work including core courses specified by the department, six hours of internship, evidence of research ability, internship report and an oral examination conducted by the candidate's faculty committee is required for internship option.

Applicant should be a graduate of a regionally accredited institution in the U.S., or of a similar foreign university whose requirements for the bachelor's degree are substantially equivalent to those at the University of Arkansas, may be considered for admission to the Graduate School. In addition to this, they should have equivalent of at least 16 years schooling; have pursued a curriculum comparable to one at the University of Arkansas; have earned at least a 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) grade point average on the last 60 hours of bachelor's degree course work (approximately last two years of a four-year degree program). International students should have obtained a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper- based)/79 (internet-based) or a 6.5 on the IELTS.
