The School of Health Technology and Management is recognized as a premier professional school, which has for many years offered professional certificate programs in physical and occupational therapy, respiratory care, clinical laboratory sciences, cytotechnology, and physician assistant education. In addition, our masters program in health care policy and management has a long established reputation for graduating some of the best health care management professionals. In response to the ever changing world of health care in recent years, a number of our programs have moved to graduate level education. Occupational therapy offers a multi-award BS/MS degree; the PA program is now at a master’s level and offers a transitional masters program for the working professional. Physical therapy was the first program in SHTM to fully transition to doctoral level education, and also offers a transitional doctoral program to working PT’s who wish to advance to the doctoral level while continuing to practice.

Stony Brook University has largest residential campus, offering 26 residence halls. The residence halls called quads are conveniently located on different parts of the campus. There are two types of residence halls to choose from: Corridor Style : In corridor style buildings, a community of approximately 30 residents live in double or single bedrooms along a corridor, sharing a common bath and shower area, lounge area, and a kitchen. Many residents prefer to live in these buildings due to the social nature of the halls. Suite Style: In suite style buildings, four or six residents of the same gender share two or three bedrooms, a private bathroom, and living or dining area. There are two types of Suites: cooking, and non-cooking. The common rooms in cooking suits are furnished with dining tables, chairs, and cooking facilities; common rooms in non-cooking suits are furnished with couches and end tables. As a general rule, incoming students are placed in residence halls based on their college of interest. All rooms come furnished with an extra long twin bed, desk, chair, dresser, and bookcase for each resident, have high-speed access to the Internet, and are equipped with state of the art phone systems featuring digital phone mail, conference calling, and call forwarding. A cable access connection in each room provides Cablevision’s premium service. On single gender floors, residents share common bath and shower areas. Each quad has its own fitness center featuring Nautilus and Cybex equipment. Some fitness centers offer aerobics classes, and all are staffed by trained students who can provide assistance.
