Ringkasan program
This degree would provide an array of interdisciplinary courses, concentrated in the study of second language acquisition, the teaching of English as a second / foreign language, and in English-language literature and culture. This program offers practicing and aspiring foreign language teachers a Master's degree concentrating on foreign language pedagogy. The program integrates the teaching of language, culture, and literature. The program is designed to: strengthen the language skills and cultural awareness of practicing teachers; develop new patterns and techniques of teacher preparation and teacher/student interaction in English; narrow the traditional gap in graduate study between the methods of teaching and the content areas of literature and culture; encourage the professional development of the field; allow practicing teachers to complete graduate studies within a reasonable time (two to three years).
Modul program
The Pedagogy and Methodology (9-12 hours) are Introduction to Foreign Language Pedagogy, Introduction to Second Language Acquisition, Principles of Linguistics; Teaching English as a Foreign Language (6 hours): TEFL for Adult Learners, Practicum in Adult TEFL: Oral Communication, Practicum in Adult TEFL: Written Communication; Language and Culture (6-12 hours): May be selected from existing courses in English or Modern Languages, or courses in related areas such as anthropology, education, or speech; electives (3-6 hours, with approval of the program committee); master's Thesis (6 hours) or Master's Report (2 hours).

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by the cognizant regional accrediting agency and undergraduate preparation in the proposed major field equivalent to that acquired by a graduate of Kansas State University, or evidence of an appropriate background for undertaking an advanced degree program. Applicants should have GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale in the last 60 hours of coursework. This GPA is based only on courses graded on a multi-level scale, usually A, B, C, D, and F. International students are required to internet based TOEFL (iBT): listening 21, reading 21, writing 21, speaking 24. International students are required to do a writing assessment upon arrival to determine proficiency in critical writing skills. Applicants who are submitting a TOEFL paper-based test score must have a minimum of 550 to be considered for admission to a graduate program. Applicants with scores 550 through 599 may be admitted provisionally and must take the EPT prior to enrolling in their first semester. Applicants who are submitting an IELTS score must have a minimum of 6.1 to be considered for admission to a graduate program. Applicants with a score 6.1 through 6.9 may be admitted provisionally and must take the EPT prior to enrolling in their first semester. Applicants will be required to enroll in designated course(s) based on EPT scores and the recommendation of the K-State English Language Program.
