Students submit the Test of English as a Second Language (TOEFL) score is required of all international students, with the following exceptions: TOEFL is not required if student are a citizen of any of the following countries and student native language is English: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Botswana, the British Virgin Islands, Canada, the Cayman Islands, Dominica, Great Britain, Fiji, the Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Guam, Guyana, Hong Kong SAR, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Malawi, Montserrat, New Zealand, Nigeria, St. Helena, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Singapore, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos, Uganda, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Zambia, or Zimbabwe. TOEFL is not required if student have obtained a degree from an accredited institution where English is the primary language of instruction. TOEFL is not required if student have completed ESL Level 6 at The New School. A TOEFL score of 620 is required for unqualified admission to the M Arch program; a TOEFL score of 580 is acceptable but requires mandatory English language coursework during the first year of study to demonstrate ESL Level 6 ability or to achieve a score 620 or greater on the TOEFL exam. A score lower than 580 is not acceptable for admission.
