The M.A. in Clinical Psychology is a 48-credit program designed for working professionals. Its accelerated format, in which classes meet one night a week for four semesters and two summers, enables students to pursue a master’s degree while simultaneously continuing a career. Students will progress in a cohort group of approximately 15-20 members, a setting designed to promote shared learning and teamwork. Students are registered as a group in a well-structured sequence of coursework, in which courses build upon previous classes to prepare students for the required capstone courses: Thesis and Practicum. Students may not take a course at another institution and/or transfer credits while enrolled in the program. In addition, dropping courses each semester is not permitted. Students may, however, withdraw from the program due to circumstances beyond their control. Students seeking readmission into the program are referred to the Office of Graduate Admissions.

The minimum admission requirements are: A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. All applicants must have completed General Psychology, Personality, Abnormal Psychology, Research Methods, and Statistics or their equivalent. A minimum overall GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 point scale) and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in psychology courses. Three letters of recommendation sent directly to the Office of Graduate Admissions. These letters should be from current or former professors, an employer, or a supervisor of paid or volunteer work in a psychology or social service area. A personal essay of two-four typed pages describing reasons for seeking a graduate degree in clinical psychology. The essay should include details of past academic, employment, and volunteer experiences in psychology, expectations for graduate education, and professional goals. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. A personal interview with a graduate faculty member. The interview is scheduled after the Psychology Department has reviewed all the materials. Upon approval, students can waive/transfer a maximum of nine credits for: Undergraduate courses in History and Systems in Psychology and Physiological Psychology. Graduate courses taken elsewhere corresponding to courses in the program. Non-native English speakers must submit scores of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Students who are not able to access the TOEFL may be allowed to submit scores from another testing mechanism (ACT, SAT, GMAT, ASSET). This will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Japanese students may submit STEP as an alternative to the TOEFL.
